Am I a narcissist?
Written By: Braiden Belnap
Summary: I had the opportunity to interview Krystal Konecke. We talked about what being a narcissist means. I wanted to share my three takeaways from our podcast episode. The first thing is that we all have narcissistic traits, second is that there is what a narcissist is, and third that not having enough narcissistic traits can be bad.
First let’s talk about what it means to be a narcissist. A narcissist is someone who has an unreasonable high sense of self importance. They tend to have a lack of understanding of others. They also can manipulate others and project. They don’t think they are the problem in situations when they in fact are, but can see it. How can you deal with a narcissistic person in your life? I personally choose to keep a distance from people who are and don’t have a close relationship with them. I am a believer that it is okay to be friendly to everyone but you don’t have to be friends with everyone. If someone is toxic it is okay to cut them out of your life. I am a huge believer in boundaries. Boundaries help you feel safe and help others understand how you want them to have a relationship with them.
I learned that we all have narcissistic tendencies but what determines if you are narcissists or a normal person is how much you have. If you are self aware and know that you are a good person but don’t put yourself on a pedestal then you are probably okay. Those tendencies help build confidence in oneself but too much is a bad recipe. However on the flip side not having enough of those tendencies can make it so you aren’t confident in yourself. People will naturally walk all over you so it is important to have a fine balance.
I took a test to see how many narcissistic tendencies I have and I am on the higher end of normal. I still fit in the category of normal however I have more confidence in myself and know how to help people for the good.
I hope you have been able to learn something from today’s blog. I share a new positive message every wednesday. I also have a podcast where I go more into depth on this topic. I would love to connect. Linked below are my social media accounts.
