Summary: Why is it important to take ownership of your life?  When you take ownership of your life you are holding yourself accountable. When you hold yourself accountable you will have a better and more fulfilled life. In today’s blog I touch on the steps of how to take ownership of your life. Awareness is the first step. After becoming aware you have to understand after you understand then the last step is to take action.  How do you do all those steps? Keep reading to find out… (;

The first step to taking ownership is awareness. What does it mean to be aware? The first thing you need to do when becoming aware is look inside. Look at how you react in situations. When you’re upset and stressed how do you handle your emotions? Do you handle them in a healthy way?  I love this article published by healthline that teaches how to handle emotions in a healthy way.  https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-control-your-emotions

Once you learn how you handle your emotions and decide to make changes if they’re necessary. Next is becoming aware of your thoughts.  Your thoughts have the power to create negative emotions and negative actions.  Learning to control your thoughts takes time and doesn’t happen in an instant.  The way I control my thoughts is to separate the negative thoughts from my neutral and positive thoughts.  I take the thought and ask myself “How is this serving me?” After finding if it isn’t serving me I make the conscious decision to not give it anymore energy.  The final step to awareness is to become aware of your actions.  Are your actions lifting you up and others up around you? Are they helping you reach your goals?  Are you acting day to day that is best for you?  Answer those questions for yourself.  If you answer no to any of those, come up with a game plan on how you are going to change your actions so you can do the things you want to in life.

The next step in taking ownership is understanding.  This is pretty straightforward.  You have to understand what you learned from being aware and really dig deep and ponder how you want to change the things you became aware about.

The final step is taking action. This is the most important step out of the three. If you don’t take this step you won’t fully take ownership of your life.  After you understand the things you need to work on you need to create a plan of action.  My recommendation for creating a plan of action is to write down where you’re at now.  What things you want to work on.  Where you want to be. Then create a plan on how to get there.  Keep in mind that you are not perfect. If you don’t do things 100% at first don’t beat yourself up.  Everyone isn’t perfect in their journey of transformation so if you mess up or fall into old habits what’s important is taking a deep breath and recommit yourself to change.
